My favorite memory would be the day before I started here in 2012. Mike Smith, our Principal/CEO told me that I was invited (if I wanted to come) to an "Insurance Social" in New York City. I had no idea what an insurance social was, or even what a social was. I took to Google to find some answers and determined that a sport coat was the appropriate attire. The only issue was that I didn’t own one. I now own a number of sport coats and attend these "socials" or gatherings of similar interested people, quite often. They are now an integral part of the relationship building process and highly important in our success here at Axis Insurance Services.
Traveling on business and/or attending PLUS events with Mike and Javier are usually full of fun filled exchanges. I remember for my first SIOR event held in Austin, Texas, Mike took us to a barbecue joint called Terry Black’s. It was one of the best barbecue places I have ever been. We ate until we could not put another piece of brisket in our mouths. During the same conference, we went to a southern restaurant and I had my first and last piece of chicken fried steak and way too many hush puppies.
There are too many to share, but it I had to pick a few, here it goes. While in Malibu, CA with Javier, he was posing for a picture on the jetty. In the middle of the picture a seagull dropped its offering and landed on Javier in the middle of the shot. In another story, while taking Matt Culkin to California two things happened. First, while seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time, Matt had to touch the ocean. He was warned to take off his shoes as the waves came quick and he wouldn’t listen. Sure enough a wave came through and blasted him, shoes and all. On the same trip, while walking down the Hollywood walk of fame, he passed by Gene Autry, Bing Crosby, John Wayne and stopped to take a picture of Jennifer Aniston and Chris Farley’s star.
My favorite memory of my time here at Axis is when I landed $50K stand alone ERP for a client who was in a pinch and was able to get it done within 2 or 3 days. It was unexpected, it had a quick time frame, and it required me to understand what was possible with our markets and to negotiate the right quote that would get the deal done. It was my first larger sized account and it definitely helped increase my interest in sales.
